Born in 1980 in Lyon, France, works and Lives between Paris, Romme, France and Geneva, Switzerland. Aurélie Pétrel’s photographic practice reflects on the manifestation of images and their spatial layout through the prism of a mathematic model. By putting her photographs through several transformation processes, her sculpture-like installations create illusions and disrupt our perception of reality. Her use of wall sticker technique allows her to print directly on various types of mediums and gives way to “contextualized” artworks: the image architecture adds up to that of the space in order to provoke a new visual experience. Her desire to play around image materiality through unstable processes enables her to present photographic image in various physical states like as many variations. Aurélie Pétrel sees it as a score, a constantly evolving piece made from an original installation she can recompose in each new exhibition setting. Since 2001, she has centered her work on six cities: Shanghai, Tokyo, Paris, Leipzig, Montreal and New York. Each city is seen as a space of architectural momentum she uses to push the boundaries of the changing image, from her field researches to the fragmentary visions of the pictures she takes in exhibition spaces. She recently added a seventh city to the list: Romme, 130km away from Lausanne, on the other side of the lake toward the Alps. She is currently represented by several galleries: Ceysson & Bénétière (Paris, FR), Gowen Contemporary (Geneva, CH), and Galerie Valeria Cetraro (Paris, FR), for her duo Pétrel I Roumagnac (duo). website solo
Vincent Roumagnac
Born 1973, he lives and works in Paris and Helsinki. Vincent Roumagnac is a French-Basque artist and researcher. Challenging definitions of genre, he explores different medium from and within the broad notion of stage, from performance and installations to video-scenic experiments. His art practice is based on time-specific explorations of the scenic mutations that emerge from the strategy of permutation between the backstage and the proscenium agencies at the time of a shift of representational paradigm demanded by the current climatic crisis. Since 2010 he collaborates with Finnish choreographer Simo Kellokumpu and since 2012 with French visual artist Aurélie Pétrel. His solo and collaborative projects have been featured in different European and international venues in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Finland, Iceland, Argentina, Japan, Canada and China. He is currently conducting a doctorate in artistic research at the Performing Arts Research Centre of the University of the Arts of Helsinki on Reacclimating the Stage (2015 – 2020). His work in duo with Aurélie Pétrel – aka Pétrel I Roumagnac (duo) – is represented by the Gallery Valeria Cetraro (Paris). website
